Miss Mamie's Spoonbread (one and two) hold such a special place in my heart and that of my family! I ate it while courting my now husband in our teens, when I didn't feel like cooking for the family, while studying through college, when my son Sean had a car accident just around the corner from the restaurant (Spoonbread Two) where we lived for some time then. We spent a rough long night and day in the hospital. The most special memory of all is from September 28th and 29th, 1999, I was experiencing labor pains and contractions and was told by the hospital to walk all the way home to Harlem and back and that I'd be ready to deliver in full blown labor. I being so stubborn while having labor contractions and on way back home insisted that my husband take me to my favorite place to enjoy one of my favorite meals there. That day I had my fried fish, Mac n cheese, yams and collard greens with the southern punch I believe it was. Trembling while grasping the table with each contraction that grew closer closer, I in-between them enjoyed every last bite while my husband looked on frantically saying we should go soon lol. Everyone was so sweet as normal talking and walking me through each contraction and saying "let the girl eat...let her enjoy her food...that baby is hungry and will thank her later!" Lol That, Brandon, came soon after abruptly into the world. That meal almost made me deliver in the cab! He is now a man who, thankful to Spoonbread (one), loves him a good ole southern home cooked meal! Time has gone by so fast, but like in a post I made on your restaurant page, I hope to make time to visit one day soon and bring my Brandon and his dad back! Thank you for being a staple in our family as all of our 6 children were growing up. For being a home outside of home and being so welcoming and warm each and every time! Norma, thank you for always having such a huge smile each time we saw you and for always treating us and each and every guest like they were being served in your very home and dining room. You are greatly loved and appreciated! I will update with pictures when I return! - Love, The Harris Family

Always enjoy dining at Miss Mamie's Spoonbread! The food is prepared fresh, our order consisted of shrimp entree, jerk chicken entree, and the big chicken sandwich with mini side of potato salad. I placed the order to go. When I arrived, there was a lovely ladies networking event taking place, and it was a true privilege to see Ms. Norma Jean the Owner. I have been dining at Miss Mamie's Spoonbread since the restaurant opened in 1997, and the food is consistently great, one of the best soul food restaurants in Harlem. The atmosphere is laidback, family friendly, that reminds me of being in the South enjoying Sunday dinner.

Food, service, and atmosphere great. Had fried catfish with one side macaroni and cheese both were great. When I first tasted the fish and Mac thought it needed salt. It didn't. The tartar sauce had a slight bite of hot sauce. Dessert was peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Fantastic. Thought I tasted a hint of cinnamon.

Miss Mamie's brings me back to my time living down South! The food at Miss Mamie's is very good and reasonably priced - the portions are huge and you really can't go wrong with whatever you order. I particularly enjoyed the collared greens and the candied yams - the fried shrimp were also really good and crispy. Perhaps the best part of Miss Mamie's though is the atmosphere. The service is calm and laid back, and everyone is extremely friendly. Our server gave us a bunch of recommendations and Miss Mamie's is clearly a neighborhood place- everyone said hi to each other upon walking in (we were right by the door so we were greeted quite often!) and it was just really pleasant to be here. I've wanted to try this place for years and I can't believe we finally made it here in 2024. We will absolutely be back.

A group of friends and I came here for dinner after an urban hike around Upper Manhattan parks. The space was lovely and prettily decorated with gorgeous, colorful floral arrangements all over, a red piano, framed portraits, cute little lamps, white tables and chairs with pale yellow walls. There was a nice, cozy atmosphere. I decided to order the Sampler, which came with Fried Cat Fish, Ribs, Fried Chicken, along with 3 sides. I went with the Candied Yams, Mac & Cheese, as well as Rice & Peas. I loved that this platter came with a little bit of everything. The Fried Cat Fish was lightly breaded, perfectly crispy, flaky and wonderfully well seasoned. The Ribs were smothered in bold, savory sauce, and delightfully tender. Fried Chicken was oh so crunchy, nicely juicy, and full of great flavor. Candied Yams were soft, in a warm, cinnamony sauce. Mac & Cheese was quite cheesy, creamy, with a tasty crust. Finally, Rice & Peas were pretty good and had just the right consistency. Service was solid. Our waitress was welcoming and everything came out in a timely manner. We all definitely enjoyed our meal here!

I was craving soul food and was sold on this place as historic contender in the Best Soul Food in NYC category. I arrived for an early dinner with a friend on a Saturday. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated and there was only one other group dining at that time with one service member visible. We were automatically brought cold cornbread which I only nibbled on. The Famous Seafood Gumbo was a good appetizer with a moderate of spicy taste; definitely the Shining Star of my dining experience. I opted for the Southern Fried Chicken and Rib Combo which came with two pieces of chicken and two ribs covered in BBQ sauce. The meats were seasoned well but I would have liked more seasoning in the sides of collard greens and Macaroni & Cheese. I would not recommend the Peach Cobbler because the flavor was not there but the Red Velvet was better maybe even really good when served at room temperature and not cold. We came in at the perfect time and was able to enjoy our food without having to constantly hunt down the server. Everyone after us was not so lucky and waited too long for cold food or incorrect orders. The kitchen even struggled to get the orders to the many delivery food drivers. Lack of staffing is an issue that would need to be overcame in order for me to return.
